Richard Allen is an illustrator who graduated and started as a fine artist. His work is very comical and is mainly editorial. Opposing Matt Johnson's advice to join the AOI, Richard actually said not to bother as during his time as an early illustrator he found the data and advice very out of date, including the lists of Art Directors. I found this quite confusing as his views completely contradict those of other illustrators.
Richard gains all of his work through self promotion and doesn't have an agent, instead he contacts Art Directors on a regular basis, tending to stay in contact with ones that have previously commissioned him.
Richards work is most commonly used in newspapers/supplements and editorial spreads and covers.
